I do not want to mislead anyone with this title, I don’t know the exact blueprint for driving revenue through social media, and truthfully I am not so sure anyone does just yet.  Sure there are some wonderful examples like Ford, Zappos, and the latest movie blockbuster The Hunger Games, but these appear to more more anomalies than ‘one size fits all’ strategies for companies to benefit from.

Consumers and fans visit a brands social media channels primarily for two reasons:

1. They are current or former customers or…

2. They like what the brand is saying

Social Media presents an opportunity for consumers to learn and share about new products or brands they like. With this in mind, the most important means of social media is as a customer service tool and learning resource. Fans and consumers alike want to engage with the things they like. Social Media is the best way for companies to talk, and perhaps more importantly listen, to what people are saying about them, their peers, and their likes/dislikes

Social Media is NOT about selling products or services, it is about sharing and engaging with current and prospective customers and listening and seeking thoughts and ideas.  This two-way conversation allows for more personable interaction and ultimately, if done correctly, can build brand loyalty, improve customer satisfaction, and identify future trends and improvements.
